 Call for Experts, Tanzania Marine Conservation 

Research Triangle Institute (RTI) has over 30 years’ experience assisting governments, communities, and the private sector. As a not-for-profit, independent research institute based in North Carolina, USA, RTI has roughly 5,000 employees with global experience implementing international development projects. RTI’s Sustainable Growth & Resilience (SG&R) technical unit within the International Development Group brings together RTI experts and capabilities across food security, agriculture, energy, environment, water, governance, and economic opportunity. SG&R will leverage RTI’s experience designing and delivering multisectoral programming and technical solutions to respond to climate change, build resilience, and promote economic growth around the world.


SG&R’s Environment portfolio has delivered innovative, breakthrough solutions in key development sectors, including countering wildlife crime, forestry, protected area management, climate change, environmental policy, economic livelihood development, community engagement, and institutional capacity building.

Position Description

RTI is currently seeking professionals for the anticipated USAID/Tanzania Heshimu Bahari project, focused on supporting and strengthening marine biodiversity in Tanzania. We are seeking candidates with expertise in marine biodiversity management and conservation that promotes economic sustainability, food security for communities, and marine biodiversity conservation in Tanzania.

Position is contingent upon award and funding.

We are currently accepting CVs/resumes for experts with the following skills:

  • Marine Protected Areas management
  • Community based natural resources management – marine and coastal
  • Sustainable tourism practices
  • Endangered, Threatened, and Protected (ETP) species management and conservation
  • Coastal restoration, including mangrove restoration and conservation
  • Small-scale fisheries practices and management
  • Fisheries market access and engagement
  • Institutional strengthening and capacity building
  • Private sector engagement and development
  • Alternative livelihoods and income generation for marine conservation programs
  • Legal, Regulatory and Policy expertise (related to MPAs, marine enforcement, ETP species, and fisheries management)
  • Communications, SBCC, community activism or awareness
  • Youth and gender inclusion
  • Monitoring, evaluation, and learning & GIS
  • Grants and/or contracts management

Qualifications

  • Experts should possess at least 6 years of relevant experience
  • Experience with donor funded projects such as USAID, World Bank, DFID preferred
  • Candidates should be fluent in English, Swahili preferred
  • Experience working in Tanzania required.
