Overview

Tatc / Shirika La Nyumbu

Tanzania Automotive Technology Centre (TATC), synonymously known as “Shirika la Nyumbu”, was formally established on the 14th December 1985, through a Presidential Order, made under the Public Corporations Act 1969. TATC’s mission is to develop a reputable capacity for automotive engineering by conducting research and innovation, technology transfer and quality assurance services.

TATC is wholly owned by the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania through the Ministry of Defence and National Service (MoDNS).

TATC seeks to recruit intelligent and result-oriented Tanzanians with high integrity to fill 2 vacant posts mentioned below:-

ARTISAN II

Masonry -1 Post

Report to: Chief Workshop Engineer.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepares cement/sand mixers for block/brick making.
  • Prepares mixes for different finishing works as per stipulated specifications.
  • Ensures safety of working tools and cleanliness after use.
  • Performs any duty assigned by the superior.

Welder -1 Post

Report to: Chief Workshop Engineer.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To inspect and recognize defects on work done by junior welders.
  • To identify machine malfunction and reports to Foreman
  • To prepare work pieces which requires special attention before welding for junior artisans?

Spray Painting and Panel Beating -1 Post

Report to: Chief Workshop Engineer.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To perform panel beating and gas welding for finishing or repair.
  • To spray paint, first and finish coat without close supervision of senior spray painters.
  • To paint special coats for special applications.
  • To up hold industrial safety and practice in spray painting and panel beating.

Fitter Mechanic-1 Post

Report to: Chief Workshop Engineer.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To assemble and disassemble mechanical systems.
  • To drill, tap and hand reaming new holes during assembly of mechanical parts.
  • To re-thread or re-tap of bolts and nut during assembly of mechanical parts.
  • To scrap, lap and fit shell bearings and bushes in specified fields.
  • To detect fault and rectify plants and equipment.
  • To assemble and disassemble mechanical systems.
  • Re-thread or re-taps bolts and nut.
  • To identify worn out parts by proper use of measuring instruments.
  • To conduct fault diagnostic in vehicles and vehicle systems.
  • To carry out preventive maintenance schedules for vehicles.
  • To conduct vehicles inspections, repair, servicing and testing

Electrical -1 Post

Report to: Chief Workshop Engineer.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To instruct lower grade electrical artisans.
  • To conduct maintenance and repair of electrical equipments.
  • To conduct maintenance and repair of electrical installations such as lighting systems and socket outlets.
  • To maintain and service domestic electrics, installations such as circuit breakers, wiring switches, and switching devices.

Motor Vehicle Mechanics - 3 Posts

Report to: Chief Workshop Engineer.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To conduct fault diagnostic in vehicles and vehicle systems.
  • To carry out preventive maintenance schedules for vehicles.
  • To cconduct vehicles inspections, repair, servicing and testing
  • To iinspect vehicles to detect faults before repair and verify Workmanship after repairs.
  • To assist vehicle Technicians in conducting major overhauls in vehicle systems.
  • To repair defect report and remedies of motor vehicles

Foundry- 4 Posts

Report to: Chief Workshop Engineer.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To operate foundry equipment and machinery.
  • To pour molten metal into mould for casting.
  • To repair moulds.
  • To read and record temperatures of molten metal.
  • To make moulds of simple castings.
  • To make moulds in green and sodium silicate bonded sands.
  • To operate with high degree of confidence all simple foundry machines.
  • To operate heat treatment equipment and machinery.
  • To pack and protect parts against decarburization or scaling during treatment.
  • To set, read and record temperature of treatment furnace.
  • To carry out heat treatment of simple parts.
  • To make protective materials on parts intended for treatment.
  • To operate with high degree of confidence simple heat treatment furnace, being able to carry out annealing, hardening and tempering of simple parts.

Qualifications

Holder of form IV Certificate (CSEE) and NVTA1/ CBET II or Trade Test Grade II in one of the following field: Foundry, Electrical Installation, Motor Vehicle, Fitter Mechanics, Welding, Spray Painting and Panel Beating and Masonry equivalent qualifications from recognised institution.

ENGINEER II (ELECTRICAL) – 1 POST

Reports to: Chief Technical Service (Maintenance) Engineer

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To conduct design of engineering system components and maintenance tools.
  • To undertake preventive and breakdown maintenance of machine tools, material handling equipments, motor vehicles and other facilities.
  • To prepare weekly job loading and ensure timely completion of maintenance, repair and installation works.
  • To repair the Centre’s assets (machineries, equipments and facilities) and ensure their continual operation.
  • To prepare “requests for repair” forms for works to be subcontracted.
  • To conduct diagnostic analysis of failure components.
  • To advise on modification or innovation of failure components for improved performance.
  • To select materials and components to suit particular maintenance application; and
  • To perform any other related duties as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Qualifications

A holder of Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution. Must be registered by Engineers Registration Board (ERB) as Graduate Engineer.

TECHNICIAN II (MECHANICAL)-1 POST

Report to: Chief Prototype Workshop Engineer

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To operate machine tools such as lather, milling, boring, grinding, drilling and gear cutting machines.
  • To calculate and set special machine tool operations e.g gear generation setting parameters and numerical control machines programming.
  • To assist junior Artisans in the interpretation of complex manufacturing engineering drawings.
  • To identify machine tool malfunction for proper reporting
  • To monitor and control work in progress and ensure proper use of machineries, equipments and tools.
  • To prepare production process control programmes and work schedules and ensures their applicability.
  • To undertake safety measures of production personnel machine tools material handling and other facilities.

Qualifications

A holder of FTC/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from recognized institution.

RESEARCH ASSISTANT – 6 POSTS

Report to: Head of Research and Technology Development

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To engineer products and system failure investigation.
  • To determine appropriate materials for automotive engineering application
  • To rehabilitate engineering systems and processes for improved productivity.
  • To conduct consultancy works related to engineering research.
  • To conduct analysis on disposition of sub-standard materials such as downgrading, reprocessing or scraping.
  • To use Computer Aided Engineering in project development and promotion; and
  • To prepare artistic impressions of new concepts and products.

Qualifications

Holder of Bachelor Degree with a minimum of upper second class in one of the following fields: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Industrial Engineering from any recognized higher learning institution.
